Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026: The Importance of Community and Mental Health Support

Eating Disorders Awareness Week — The Power of Community

Each year, Eating Disorders Awareness Week is led by Beat, the UK’s eating disorder charity. The 2026 theme focuses on community — recognising the important role that friends, families, colleagues and wider support networks can play when someone is experiencing an eating disorder.

Rather than creating a separate message, I wanted to work within that national theme by producing a short awareness film centred on connection and belonging.

Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that can affect anyone. Many experiences remain unseen, and people can feel deeply isolated — both those living with an eating disorder and those supporting someone they care about.

Community does not mean having perfect answers. Often it begins with presence: checking in, listening, or simply helping someone feel less alone.

The film shared here is offered in support of Eating Disorders Awareness Week and to help signpost the resources and support provided by Beat, whose contact details appear at the end of the video.

Why Community Matters

Across mental health, bereavement and wellbeing work, one consistent theme emerges: people cope better when they feel connected.

Awareness weeks offer an opportunity not only to learn more about specific conditions, but also to reflect on how small acts of care and understanding can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know is affected by an eating disorder, you can find information, guidance and support via Beat, whose details are included at the end of the video.
