New ways November

That’s the theme of this month’s Action for Happiness calendar.

Many people are put off with learning due to negative thoughts and feelings of ‘homework’ from childhood or student days.

But with the latest announcement from the UK Government we will be in our homes for some time. So now is a great time to reframe thoughts and feelings on homework.

Learning doesn’t have to be complicated and only mean enrolling in courses or getting formal qualifications. Examples of ways learning can enrich your life could be:

Research shows that learning something new boosts self-confidence, helps build a sense of purpose and connects you with others. All fantastic outcomes to help combat mental ill health.

My start with learn something new was to use a torque wrench to tighten the acorn nuts on my spin bike. Context. I can barely change a light bulb.

Use the hints and tips on the calendar for stimulus to find new ways to learn this November.

And if you’re stalling on whether to learn something new, ponder the meaning of this Chinese proverb:

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

May today be a good mental health day.
